ABOUT ME

It was 1992. The air was humid and floor was littered with chewing gum.  The crowd felt electric as they eagerly awaited the thrash metal band “Testament” to take the stage.  I fit in like a missing piece of the puzzle with my blue hair, black hoodie, white Chucks and blue jeans.  Armed with an analogue Minolta camera, I stood among the crowd in LKA Longhorn in Stuttgart and pressed the shutter release.  My heart was racing.  This was the first concert I photographed for my school newspaper at the age of 15 and the night that my love triangle with music and photography began.

A few years later, I studied photography and media at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and my love for the profession continued to grow.  Since 2007, I have been a freelance photo designer with a focus on music, people and portraits.  Even after all these years and it becoming my career, the passion of my 15-year-old self still remains.  With the exception of some tattoos I’ve added throughout the years, my outfit is even more or less the same.

When I am not out and about at concerts, I am working in my studio where I have had the pleasure of capturing so many wonderful people with interesting and unique stories.  These stories are what make photography so fascinating to me.  Every photo I take tells a story, and it’s a privilege to capture these moments.  This privilege requires a lot of trust, which is why the relationships with the people who want to work with me are so important.

I have the same experience at concerts.  The best shows to shoot are the ones where I can move freely and be right in the middle of action.  Music connects people from all different walks of life and creates a palpable energy between the performer and the audience.  My goal is to capture that energy and for it to not only be seen, but also felt in my photos.

Something else I am very excited about is my involvement with the Stuttgart Artist Association.  I am very pleased to be a part of such a talented and dedicated collective.  Over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to have my work featured in solo as well as in group exhibitions in Stuttgart and around the world.

I have had photos displayed in Barcelona, Stockholm and Milan as a part of the Bread and Butter / Wrangler and Dazed & Confused “This Is Wanted” exhibition as well as in Vienna where I took part in the “Cell phone Photography: (N)ot Art?” exhibit.

I am also honoured to have my portraits of the “Stuttgart Trottwar Sellers” included as a part of the graphic collection in The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, which houses the work of over 12 000 international artists.

Photography has taken me to many beautiful places around the world, but Stuttgart, Germany will always be my home.
